Programming Instructions for 2017 Chevrolet Equinox Remote Fob

FOR VEHICLES WITH REGULAR IGNITION that use a transponder key or a flip key:

This procedure requires 2 programmed working keys available for the vehicle. The new key to be programmed needs to be cut before performing this programming procedure. There is a total of eight keys that can be programmed to the vehicle. You can also find instructions specific to your vehicle in the vehicle owner’s manual.

Programming with Two Working Keys:

1. Insert the original, already programmed key in the ignition and turn the key to the ON/RUN position.
2. Turn the key to LOCK/OFF position and remove the key from the ignition.
3. Quickly, within five seconds, insert the second original already programmed key in the ignition and turn the key to the ON/RUN position.
4. Turn the key to LOCK/OFF, and remove the key
5. Insert the new key to be programmed and turn it to the ON/RUN position within five seconds.
The security light will turn off once the key is programmed.
6. Repeat Steps 1–5 if additional keys are to be programmed

Programming without Two Working Keys:

This procedure will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. DIY programming is not available in Canada.

1. Insert the new vehicle key into the ignition.
2. Turn to ON/RUN. The security light will come on.
3. Wait 10 minutes until the security light turns off.
4. Turn the ignition to LOCK/OFF.
5. Repeat Steps 2–4 two more times. After the third time, turn to ON/RUN; the new key is now programmed and all previously programmed keys will no longer work with the vehicle.
6. To program the second key, turn to OFF and insert the second key to be learned and rotate to ON/RUN.

FOR VEHICLES WITH PUSH BUTTON IGNITION (North America, except Canada): 

PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS TWO WORKING TRANSMITTER (PROXIMITY KEY):
A new transmitter can be programmed to the vehicle when there are two recognized transmitters. To program, the vehicle must be off and all of the transmitters, both currently programmed and new,  must be with you.  The key blade needs to be cut prior to performing this programming procedure. You can also find instructions specific to your vehicle in the vehicle owner’s manual.
1.  Place the 2 recognized (already programmed) transmitters near you.
2.  Insert the new key into the lock cylinder located on the outside of the driver door and turn the key to the unlock position 5 times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center (DlC) should display “Ready For Remote #2,3,4 or 5.
3. Place the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket with buttons facing up. The transmitter pocket is located inside the center console storage area. The cupholder liner will need to be pulled out to access the transmitter pocket.
4. Press the ignition button. When the transmitter is programmed, the DIC display will show that it is ready to
program the next transmitter.
5. Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press the UNLOCK button.
To program additional transmitters, repeat Steps 3 through 5.

When all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold the ignition button for 12 seconds to exit the programming mode.

PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANY WORKING TRANSMITTERS:

lf there are no currently recognized transmitters available, follow this procedure to program up to five transmitters. This procedure will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The vehicle must be off and all of the transmitters you wish to program must be with you. The key blade on the new keys needs to be cut prior to performing this programming procedure. It is recommended that the vehicle be connected to a power source via jumper cables during this procedure as the vehicle’s battery voltage will drop during the procedure.

1. Insert the new key into the key lock cylinder located on the outside of the driver door and turn the key to the unlock position five times within ten seconds. The  Driver lnformation Center (DlC) displays “Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.”
2. Wait for ten minutes until the DIC displays “Press Engine Start Button To Learn” and then  press the ignition button. The DIC displays will again show “Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.”
3. Repeat Step 2 two additional times. After the third time, all previously known transmitters will
no longer work with the vehicle. The remaining transmitters can be relearned during the next
steps. The DIC should now show “Ready For Remote #1.
4. Place the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket. The transmitter pocket is located inside the center console storage area under the cupholder. The cupholder insert will need to be pulled out to access the transmitter pocket.
5. Press the ignition button. When the new transmitter is programmed, the DIC display will show that it is ready to program the next transmitter.
6. Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press the UNLOCK button.
To program additional transmitters, repeat Steps 4 through 6. When all additional transmitters are
programmed, press, and hold the ignition for 12 seconds to exit the programming mode.
